Role summary:
The (USA) Principal, Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable software solutions aligned with business objectives. This role requires expertise in software architecture, coding standards, and testing methodologies to ensure high-quality, secure, and maintainable products. The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, anticipate risks, and drive continuous improvement throughout the software development lifecycle. The Principal Engineer will also mentor team members, guide technical decisions, and support program monitoring to deliver innovative solutions that meet evolving customer and organizational needs.
About the team:
The Squiggly Experience team develops an advanced AI-powered chatbot supporting over 2.5 million Walmart associates globally. The team specializes in scalable front-end architecture and reusable UX components to enhance digital interactions and unify metrics for stakeholders. Working within an Agile framework, members integrate AI capabilities and data-driven insights to deliver innovative solutions. Collaboration is key, with a focus on designing and maintaining robust systems aligned with business and technical objectives. Leadership emphasizes technical excellence, mentorship, and strategic problem-solving to drive continuous improvement and effective stakeholder engagement across projects.
What you'll do:
Analyze and scope software requirements, including functional and non-functional aspects, to align with business objectives and technical needs.
Design scalable, modular, and extensible software solutions adhering to architecture and disaster recovery standards.
Develop and refine detailed designs, including mock screens and pseudocode, to clarify requirements and identify risks.
Lead coding efforts, ensuring adherence to standards, security, and maintainability across platforms and frameworks.
Drive test strategy development, tool selection, and execution to ensure comprehensive coverage and defect resolution.
Monitor program metrics, manage CI/CD processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance software quality and performance.
What you'll bring:
Extensive experience in software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable solution design.
Proficiency in coding languages such as JavaScript and Python, with strong knowledge of frameworks and platforms including Microsoft Azure and AWS.
Expertise in requirements analysis, including functional and non-functional specifications, risk assessment, and user story creation.
Strong background in test strategy development, automation tools, and defect management processes.
Proven ability to lead design and implementation of cloud-native architectures and telemetry features.
Skilled in driving CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and ensuring secure, maintainable codebases.
Demonstrated leadership in mentoring teams and managing complex technical projects.

The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
