What You'll Do
We're looking for an Actuary to join our Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) Pricing team. In this role you'll support Principal's PRT business through a blend of people leadership and high-impact individual contributor work. Additionally, you'll oversee day-to-day pricing execution, manage a team of actuaries, and partner with the business and other areas to drive competitive, well-governed pricing outcomes. This position also contributes to strategic initiatives including product development, reserve modeling, capital optimization, and reinsurance to enhance business outcomes.
Lead and develop team of actuaries supporting PRT pricing and reinsurance. Contribute to a strong workplace culture built on high performance, camaraderie, and continuous learning.
Oversee daily pricing execution for US PRT sales opportunities - ensuring actuarial quality, governance alignment, and competitive positioning. Support actuarial work related to affiliate and third-party reinsurance. Contribute to pricing and reinsurance strategies that balance growth objectives with profitability targets.
Serve as pricing point of contact in cross-functional work with investments, ALM, modeling, and risk. Support assumption development, experience analysis, modeling, and execution of ALM programs.
Support pricing and ongoing actuarial work for institutional and fixed annuity products.
Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization including within the business unit.
Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required

Who You Are
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 8+ years actuarial experience required
A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, or global equivalent, or Enrolled Actuary
Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required
Strong technical and modeling skills, with understanding of ALM, capital, and risk frameworks.
Demonstrated leadership ability and strong communication skills
Ability to manage both people leadership and individual contributor responsibilities
Experience in pension risk transfer pricing or institutional annuity pricing
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$141000 - $191000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role is hiring in Des Moines, IA and offers in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangements.
