Robert Half Management Resources is seeking an Interim Accounts Payable Manager to support our food retail client in Carson. This onsite, 3+ month engagement requires leadership of a high-performing AP team, responsible for managing accounts payable activities across 20 retail locations. The role entails direct supervision of seven AP professionals, with invoice processing divided by cost centers and vendor assignments organized alphabetically. Operating in a fast-paced, retail-driven environment, the team collectively handles approximately 70,000 invoices per month.

Primary Responsibilities:

Supervise, support, and develop a team of seven AP specialists; maintain accountability for AP operations across 20 separate locations.

Assign and monitor invoice processing according to cost center divisions and vendor splits.

Oversee daily workflow to ensure timely and accurate invoice processing in a high-volume environment.

Act as a patient, hands-on trainer and subject matter expert; provide ongoing coaching and training to the AP team.

Review and clean up errors; establish procedures to minimize mistakes and increase accuracy.

Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-ones to ensure alignment with company policies and best practices.

Monitor individual and team performance using metrics and KPIs; address any performance issues promptly.

Drive process improvements and recommend system or procedural changes as needed.

Communicate with internal stakeholders (such as division managers and finance leaders) to resolve issues and streamline approval workflows.

Act as the AP escalation point for problem resolution regarding vendor disputes, invoice discrepancies, and cost center allocations.

Requirements

Key Requirements:

Proven experience managing a high-volume Accounts Payable team, preferably in a multi-location retail environment.

Strong personnel management, training, and mentoring skills.

Ability to analyze and clean up complex AP workflows and error patterns.

Experience working within a cost center-driven structure.

Proficiency with major AP/ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) preferred.

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
