This position provides part-time (up to 20 hours per week) administrative, research, and logistical support to the Department of Corrections (DOC) Legislative Director during the Minnesota legislative session. This position assists in tracking legislation, preparing materials, supporting legislative meetings and hearings, and coordinating communication between the DOC and legislative stakeholders.

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution, you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education in Public Policy, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Law, Public Administration, Communications, or closely related field.

Applicants that meet the education requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:

Ability to research and summarize complex legislative language in a clear and concise manner.

Written communication skills sufficient to prepare bill summaries, briefing documents, and meeting notes.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

Knowledge of Minnesota government and the legislative process.

One (1) or more years of administrative support experience.

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
