Role Overview:
This position performs field work to maintain state Fish & Wildlife Areas. Key tasks include maintaining signage, parking areas, facilities, and equipment as well as performing science-based wildlife habitat management.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this roles are as follows:
Make routine carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
Check heating, air conditioning, kitchen, laundry, and maintenance equipment for efficiency and make necessary repairs.
Install curtain rods, toilet paper and toothbrush holders, tile, screens, window glass, doors, wiring and conduits, plumbing fixtures, and other varied items.
Check and repair electrical appliances, motors, pumps, fire alarm systems, thermostats, doorbells, and buzzers.
Repair locks, make keys and provide secure facility and property.
Assist a skilled trades person on major projects.
Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical repairs .
Ability to read and follow instructions and to handle simple mathematical problems per the mentioned duties above.
Ability to determine malfunctions of electrical and mechanical equipment and make simple repairs.
Ability to read blueprints and understand schematics.
Ability to set tile, finish concrete and plaster and to do tuck pointing.
Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
Physical Effort:
This role requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment (e.g. tractors, snowplows, or factory equipment) and drive short and long distances in all weather and light conditions.
Depending on the duties performed or environment setting, frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and/or similar movements may be involved.
This role requires the ability to lift/transport items greater than 50 lbs with or without the assistance of equipment.
This role requires the use limbs/fingers to easily perform manual functions. Equipment used may include the operation of complex manual and electric powered equipment or hand-tools.
This role may experience periods of excessive strain.
This role requires keen observational and hearing skills to stay alert for possible dangerous situations.
Working Conditions:
This role performs work in an environment where exposure to gas/fumes, dust, grease, noise, vibrations and/or soiling of clothing and skin surfaces may occur.
This role performs work outdoors and exposure to various outdoor weather conditions, rough terrain and wildlife may occur.
This role requires a high level of attention and safety due to work activities having risk of injury or loss of life.
This role requires occasional and/or overnight travel.
This role performs work in extreme (hot or cold) temperatures, small/tight spaces or other uncomfortable situations.
This role requires the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
