SALARY RANGE: GS-07: $57,641-$74,935 GS-09: $70,507-$91,664 Responsibilities You will work with engineering, safety and supervisory personnel to devise control measures such as change in work procedures, ventilation systems, material substitution, or the use of personal protective devices. You will recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards. You will perform unscheduled evaluations and accompanies special inspection teams. You will review facility plans for new construction, renovation and modification of existing structures for appropriate engineering controls to control hazardous materials, noise and physical hazards. You will conduct and document Similar Exposure Groups exposure assessments in the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System- Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database. You will provide on-the-job technical guidance to on-site junior industrial hygienists and industrial hygiene technicians in carrying out inspections, surveys and samplings. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations Experience writing concise detailed reports on findings Experience interpreting published health standards and Federal regulations Experience maintaining data, documents, samples, and monitoring results of surveys in Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database or similar systems GS-07: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Applicants must possess: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH).
