Description
AWS is seeking an experienced Principal Solutions Architect to join the Worldwide Financial Services Industry (FSI) Business Unit as a Capital Markets Industry Specialist, with a deep focus on low-latency trading infrastructure and market data technology. This is an ideal role for someone who has operated or built ultra-low-latency systems for electronic trading, order management, execution management, or market data distribution, and who is ready to bring that expertise to some of the world's most sophisticated financial institutions as they migrate to AWS.
In this role, you will serve as a core technical leader on the Capital Markets Industry Specialist team, working directly with exchanges, market data providers, broker-dealers, trading platforms (OMS/EMS), and other market structure participants to architect and accelerate their migration to AWS. You will engage at the intersection of deep technical expertise and business strategy, helping customers understand how AWS can meet or exceed the performance, reliability, and latency requirements of their most demanding workloads, whether those workloads live on a co-location floor, inside a broker-dealer's proprietary trading infrastructure, or within a market data distribution network serving thousands of downstream consumers.
Key job responsibilities
Design and architect AWS solutions with a specific focus on ultra-low-latency trading infrastructure, market data distribution, and capital markets technology, collaborating with AWS Business Development, Partner, and account teams to help the world's leading exchanges, market data providers, broker-dealers, and trading platforms migrate to AWS.
Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for low-latency and high-frequency trading workloads on AWS, including co-location strategies, kernel bypass networking (DPDK, RDMA, SR-IOV), hardware timestamping, and deterministic compute environments relevant to both exchange-operated and broker-dealer-operated infrastructure.
Architect solutions for market data consumption and distribution at scale, including tickerplant design, feed handler optimization, multicast-to-unicast translation, and low-latency pub/sub messaging on AWS, supporting both sell-side distribution architectures and buy-side consumption patterns.
Engage directly with senior technical and business leaders at exchanges, market data providers, broker-dealers (including bulge bracket and regional firms operating proprietary trading desks, DMA platforms, and smart order routing infrastructure), and trading platform vendors (OMS/EMS providers) to understand their migration challenges and develop compelling AWS-based solutions.
Develop and demonstrate technical feasibility through proof-of-concepts, proto@types, and reference architectures tailored to low-latency capital markets workloads, including AWS Outposts, AWS Local Zones, AWS Wavelength, and Direct Connect configurations for co-location and broker-dealer data center environments.
Help broker-dealers evaluate and migrate their most latency-sensitive workloads to AWS, including smart order routing (SOR), algorithmic trading engines, pre-trade risk systems, and market access gateways, while addressing regulatory and compliance requirements specific to the sell-side.
Serve as a thought leader and evangelist for AWS in the capital markets technology space, contributing to AWS blogs, whitepapers, reference architectures, and speaking at industry events such AWS re:Invent.
Capture and share best practices and insights internally and with partners and customers, building a repeatable playbook for low-latency workload migration to AWS across exchanges, broker-dealers, and market data providers.
Identify customer requirements and provide structured feedback into AWS service teams to influence the roadmap for networking, compute, and storage services relevant to capital markets, including the specific needs of broker-dealer trading infrastructure.
Build trusted advisor relationships with senior executive stakeholders, as well as technology experts, software developers, quant developers, and infrastructure architects across the capital markets ecosystem, including CTOs and heads of electronic trading at broker-dealers.
Think strategically about the evolution of market structure technology, including the migration of on-premises co-location environments to AWS, the modernization of legacy broker-dealer trading infrastructure, and the emergence of new asset classes and trading venues.
Basic Qualifications
10+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
Experience developing technology solutions and evangelising end-to-end technology roadmaps that guide IT transformations toward cloud computing
Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences and at C-level, including training, workshops, publications
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience building or operating low-latency technology for one or more of the following: order management systems (OMS), execution management systems (EMS), exchange matching engines, broker-dealer smart order routing or algorithmic trading platforms, market data feed handlers or tickerplants, or high-frequency trading infrastructure.
Deep understanding of the capital markets technology stack, including FIX protocol, FAST/SBE encoding, multicast market data feeds, co-location environments, and network optimization techniques for latency reduction, with familiarity with how broker-dealers consume and redistribute market data.
Strong understanding of on-premises infrastructure for trading environments, including FPGA-based systems, kernel bypass networking, and bare-metal compute configurations as deployed by exchanges and broker-dealers.
Hands-on experience with AWS services relevant to low-latency workloads, including EC2 (placement groups, enhanced networking, bare metal instances), AWS Direct Connect, AWS Local Zones, AWS Outposts, and Amazon EFA (Elastic Fabric Adapter).
Experience migrating on-premises trading or market data infrastructure to AWS, including hybrid connectivity design and latency benchmarking, with specific experience in broker-dealer or exchange environments preferred.
Familiarity with AWS networking services and patterns for market data distribution, including multicast alternatives, low-latency messaging architectures, and time synchronization (PTP/PPS) on AWS.
