Job Description Summary
The fuel performance analysis engineer will be responsible for performing fuel rod thermal-mechanical design analyses ensuring fuel rod mechanical integrity is maintained throughout the design lifetime. This position is part of the team responsible for developing and designing fuel bundle technologies for application in nuclear reactors.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for performing coupled heat transfer and finite element mechanical analyses for fuel rod pellet and cladding. It requires collaboration with fuel mechanical design experts, material scientists, nuclear/thermal-hydraulic analysis engineers to ensure product performs within licensed and GNF performance expectations.
Establish thermal mechanical operating limits for new and existing fuel product lines
Assist in the evaluation of fuel behavior for generic and plant specific transient analyses
Support the fuel operations and address the customer issues related to fuel pellets and cladding
Interpret operational and test data and use the data to drive improvements in modeling and methodologies
Maintain and develop the fuel performance code
Provide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacy
Maintain and develop technical design procedures associated with fuel rod design/analysis activities
Provide support in addressing nuclear industry needs and trends
Present to internal/external customers and nuclear regulators on fuel performance
Assist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projects
Perform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards
Effectively communicate and collaborate activities with other team members on technical issues
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
Minimum 8 years of experience in a technology or engineering role
Minimum 4 years of experience in thermal-mechanical or nuclear fuel analysis
Eligibility Requirements
The preferred work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
Comfortable with less than 10% travel.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
Prior nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
Prior experience with writing submittals to the NRC
Proven track record of problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation
Experience with Python and FORTRAN
Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment
A self-starter willing to take initiatives
Ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information
Strong customer focus and clear understanding of nuclear industries

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
