Assist in the preparation and development of signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control plans in accordance with CADD data standards to meet deadlines.
Provide technical assistance, with input from higher level employees, to construction inspectors and contractors in the field.
Collect and verify data using GPS equipment as needed to prepare signing plans efficiently and accurately.
Prepare pavement marking plans and layouts.
Conduct field reviews to ensure signing, pavement marking (temporary and permanent) and temporary traffic control plans are implemented according to work orders, project objectives and/or MnDOT specifications.
Operate and maintain all vehicles, tools, equipment and communications devices so that optimal performance and condition of those assets is assured and that all record logs are maintained and monitored, and all repairs are promptly requested and scheduled.
Prepare basic traffic work orders for traffic modifications performed by maintenance.
Collect data and perform field work with assistance.
Perform calculation and summarize data utilizing spreadsheets.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid Class D driver's license or an equivalent license from another state and obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions and Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of initial placement into the position and maintain as a condition of employment.
NOTE: The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).
The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with:
Six (6) months of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) or related activities AND six (6) months of experience in any of the following areas:road or bridge maintenance, road construction, design, materials/soils, permits, signs, surveys or traffic engineering.
A two-year degree in Civil or Construction Technology or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience, or a four-year degree in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Land Surveying/Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, understand oral and written information, communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio or other electronic devices and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Exam Part 1: Bidders that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 4 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance of the bid is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.) If you've previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting.
