THE POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Engineering District 3, invites you to step beyond the confines of the office and immerse yourself in the field as a Transportation Construction Inspector. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform a variety of technical duties in the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects within Engineering District 3-0 to ensure all work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. You will also monitor the proper placement of various materials, including cement concrete, asphalt, and drainage materials, as well as other relevant materials. Additionally, you will utilize your communication skills by engaging with department personnel, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to ensure the smooth and efficient management of all projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
This position is vendor-controlled. Work hours may vary to meet operational needs.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad-hoc, as approved, after successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as an Engineering Technician ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration );or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration );or
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
