The Potter County Housing Authority is accepting applications for a full time Accountant. Applications accepted until position is filled.

The position would require the applicant to perform technical and complex housing authority and general government accounting functions. This position will answer to the Executive Director.

Definition:

This is a professional accounting work in classification, analysis, and reporting of financial data.

An employee in this class analyzes financial transactions and prepares documentation, financial statements, and reports to control and account for housing and redevelopment funds and to analyze and project financial data for a variety of programs or funds. The employee will complete professional accounting work in a varied and specific financial subject matter.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and including or supplemented by 12 to 15 credits of accounting.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant, hands-on accounting experience.

Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in the housing authority field preferred.

Knowledge of government (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting principles, concepts and terminology.

Understand and utilize computerized accounting software.

Prefer PHA- WEB housing software experience.

Proficient in knowledge of Microsoft office applications, especially excel.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to work independently on assigned duties.

Demonstrate an ability to manage a variety of priorities while meeting deadlines.

Demonstrate an ability to work with all Departments of the Agency.

General Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, coordinate and assist in the operation of the accounting department.

Oversee the Accounting Assistant's monthly activities.

Preparation of financial summaries, statements, reports, and annual statements.

Process end of month and year end closing journal entries and general ledgers.

Complete monthly, quarterly and annual tax documents for local, state and federal agencies.

Submit required monthly, quarterly and annual reports to HUD, USDA and other agencies.

Complete all necessary duties as required by the Executive Director for the requirements of the position.
