Summary This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 10), Battle Creek VA Medical Center. The incumbent to the position works within the Electrical Section of Facilities Management Service and works under the direct supervision of the Electrician Section Supervisor. The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting the supervisor in creating and maintaining a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance Program for electrical systems. The incumbent performs all electrical and associated work required or expected of a journeyman electrician. The work at this grade involves installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. The incumbent must work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, @type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections, and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices, including electrical service entrances. Primary duties for electricians at this grade will be working with new and existing electrical equipment, various electrical systems, and associated fixtures, electrical circuits, electrical conductors/feeders, various electrical controls. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work assignments require moderate to heavy physical effort. Must work from ladders in high places, in manholes, and is on feet most of the time. Is subject to hazardous conditions of the electrical trade, such as electrical shock or burns. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
