DFG: The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conserving the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) serves Massachusetts' citizens by protecting, restoring, and enhancing fishery resources and their habitats while providing sustainable fisheries-related recreational and commercial opportunities. Job Opening:The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Marine Fisheries seeks applicants for a Seasonal Recreational Fisheries Technician to perform the following duties: DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collects biological samples for aging, demographic, economic, and fisheries data in coastalwatersandonshore,includingworkonsmallcraftinbaysand estuaries, research vessels and "for hire" recreational vessels. 2. Recordsdataonappropriateformsor electronically on tablets, andself-auditsdatabeforesubmission. 3. Recordsandorganizesdataincludingcomputercodinganddata entry for computer analysis. 4. Operatesandmaintainsfieldequipmentincludingmotorvehicles, small craft and trailers, and sampling gear. 5. Assists with Striped bass tagging aboard contracted vessels. 6. AssistswithotherDivisionofMarineFisheries'projectsandconducts research when time permits. _ QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE (List knowledges, skills, abilities): 1. Abilitytoidentifymarinefishandinvertebratescommonin Massachusetts' coastal waters. 2. Experienceworkingonfishingvesselsandsmallcraftwithcommon sampling tools. 3. KnowledgeofcomputersoftwareapplicationsincludingMicrosoft Office Suite. 4. Experiencefillingdataformsinthefieldandcompilingdataintabular and graphical form. 5. Abilitytointeractfavorablywiththeanglingpublic,boatcrewsandcaptains. 6. Abilitytoworkaflexiblescheduleincludingsomeweekends,to accommodate sea sampling trips. 7. Abilitytohandleheavyspecimens(upto40lbs)andworkinwetand/or cold environments. _REMARKS This is a seasonal position, no benefits included - except earned sick leave.ThestartdateforthepositionisMay 4,2026,and will be for six months.
