Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as Assistant Fire Chief. Click here for more information on SRC for Firefighters (Secondary) Responsibilities Assign work based on priorities and requirements. Approve or disapprove employee leave requests. Evaluate work performance of employees. Acknowledge work problems or serious complaints presented by subordinates to resolve issues promptly. Develop fire prevention programs to improve understanding of fire safety. Perform building safety inspections to check fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and water supply systems. Develop procedures to implement fire prevention and protection safety guidance for assigned operational areas Conduct incident or accident investigations to develop procedures that limit recurrence. Administer fire prevention protection programs to ensure they are effective. Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with regulations. Recommend actions to correct operational deficiencies Update standard operating procedures to support fire protection and prevention programs. Advise facility designers to assist them with implementation of code requirements in the project. Perform technical review of blueprints for compliance with building construction requirements related to fire protection systems Research regulations, fire code, or manufacturer's manuals to develop fire prevention solutions. Recommend changes in operational practices designed to prevent recurrence of fire. Specialized Experience: (For Current Federal Employees) One year of specialized experience includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade; responding to Hazardous Material (HAZMAT), structural, and fire emergencies; inspecting fire protection systems, fire detection systems, and fire safety equipment to ensure proper operation; and/or developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). (For Non-Federal Employees) One year of specialized experience includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade; responding to Hazardous Material (HAZMAT), structural, and fire emergencies; inspecting fire protection systems, fire detection systems, and fire safety equipment to ensure proper operation; and/or developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Additional Requirements: In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess ???????Fire Officer III; Fire Instructor III; Fire Inspector II; AND HAZMAT Incident Commander certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment Not to Exceed 3 Years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
