Position Summary

The Clinical Neuroscience Lab at Michigan State University (https://cnl.psy.msu.edu/) is seeking to hire a Research Technologist I to support multiple funded and developing research projects, including analyses of existing data from studies of abnormal visual perception in people with schizophrenia and those at elevated risk, as well as a PCORI-funded project focused on building capacity for stakeholder-driven psychosis research. The position will also involve work with the MSU Mental Health Research Connect (MHRC) initiative.

The successful candidate will play a central role in research operations, including organizing and managing existing datasets; assisting with data analysis; supporting manuscript preparation; and contributing to general lab management tasks such as maintaining IRB protocols and coordinating study documentation.

In addition, the position will involve supporting pilot data collection for new and developing studies, including assisting with eye-tracking and related experimental methods. The research technologist will also support stakeholder-engaged research activities, including coordinating communication with community and lived-experience stakeholders, assisting with engagement events and meetings, and supporting dissemination efforts consistent with PCORI principles. Work with MHRC will include outreach, participant engagement, and coordination across research and community partners.

The research technologist will have opportunities to contribute to scientific presentations and publications and to gain training in vision science, eye-tracking methods, clinical research, and stakeholder-engaged research. This position is well-suited for individuals seeking research experience in preparation for graduate training in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, public health, or related fields, or for medical school.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in clinical psychology - psychosis spectrum disorders or related fields; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in clinical psychology or related fields; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; Previous (undergraduate or post-undergraduate) experience with human subjects research; experience using statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, etc.); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Coding in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is highly desired, as is experience using REDCap and Qualtrics, Previous experience working with individuals with severe mental illness.
