GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Come join theWyoming Department of Corrections! The Wyoming State Penitentiary is seeking a Senior Mechanic.
This position performs senior-level, complex work in the maintenance and repair of state vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and fully operational to support facility operations and the safety of staff and inmates. The role requires knowledge of equipment manuals and technical specifications, strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to prepare accurate work estimates, including parts and labor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Overhauls, troubleshoots, and repairs gas and diesel engines, drive trains, hydraulic brakes, and electrical systems on vehicles and small and heavy equipment.
Assess vehicles and/or machinery to accurately diagnose and repair issues
Performs regular maintenance and safety inspections on gas and diesel vehicles and small and heavy equipment including tune-ups, oil changes, and safety inspections.
Schedules work activities in the shop.
Responds to telephone and radio calls.
Prepares paperwork and reports.
Gets quotes for repair parts.
Purchases parts, reviews invoices, and authorizes.
Trains and reviews the work mechanics or work crews in the area of vehicle or equipment maintenance or repair.
Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of equipment manuals.
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures.
Ability to prepare work estimates
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic

Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, biological substances, bio-hazards, potential explosives, and the elements.
Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning equipment.
