POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer II supports the design, analysis, integration, and installation of mechanical systems for Vigor Marine Fabrication programs. This position applies established mechanical and marine engineering principles to develop practical, production-ready solutions that meet regulatory, contractual, and operational requirements.
Working with moderate independence, the Mechanical Engineer II collaborates closely with structural engineering, production, planning, quality, and program teams to ensure mechanical systems are safe, reliable, compliant, and executable within shipyard constraints.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform mechanical engineering design and analysis for shipboard systems and equipment.
Develop and review mechanical drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning activities.
Respond to shop questions and resolve field conditions with practical, schedule-aware solutions.
Evaluate and disposition non-conformances, repairs, and deviations related to mechanical systems and system installation work.
Collaborate effectively with planners, peer engineering organizations and production leads to ensure designs are executable within cost and schedule parameters.
Support proposal and estimating efforts by providing mechanical concepts, labor estimates, and material inputs.
Assist with technical risk identification, impact assessments, and mitigation planning.
Support configuration management and change control for mechanical scope.
Ensure compliance with applicable rules, codes, and standards (ABS, USCG, NAVSEA, AISC, etc.).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
May be asked to supervise and mentor a team of up to two engineers and designers or provide oversight on engineering subcontractors as they carry out design tasks. relevant
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations and circumstances. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the organization and outside of the organization is essential in this role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Very strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred
Must be detail oriented and able to work with extremely tight specifications.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Able to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
Experience must include good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical and outfit details.
Capable of clear effective communications, creative problem solving, and working well with others of all levels of authority and technical knowledge.
Must be highly organized and have excellent documentation skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
BS in an engineering discipline or equivalent required. Bachelors in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering preferred.
Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards.
Five (5) years of marine experience required, experience in vessel design and construction preferred.
Experience and familiarity with CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Employee must be a "U.S. Person" as defined Code of Federal Regulations, Title 22, Section 120.15
