Responsibilities Serves as a Plumber/Pipefitter responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, equipment, utilities, fire protection, high pressure steam piping, and related pump systems. Maintains, tests, and repairs sprinkler system components, including alarm valves, dry valves, and quick opening devices, pipes, and valves. Conducts inspections of maintenance, repair, and installation projects, involving plumbing and the sprinkler systems, performed by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, terms, and conditions of the contract. Uses plumber tools to diagnose defects and malfunctions and make repairs (e.g., wrenches, stock and dies, pipe cutters, pipe vises, etc. Conducts regularly scheduled preventive maintenance, completes inspection sheets, and requests work orders on major repairs. Incumbent will be required to attend the Fire Sprinkler School at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas, when opening is available On an intermittent basis, the incumbent may be required to report for duty during the night or on weekends to perform emergency repairs. Occasional scheduled and non-scheduled overtime required. Must obtain a Back Flow Testing License to enable the testing and maintenance of Back Flow Devices within one year of employment. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as installing, repairing, and maintaining facilities, fire protection, and other equipment; using plumber tools, wrenches, pipe cutters, pipe vises, etc. to diagnose defects/malfunctions and make repairs; maintaining daily records, completing inspection reports, and answering trouble calls. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Effort: The incumbent makes repairs and installation from ladders, scaffoldings, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The incumbent of this position worked inside and outside where it is dirty, dusty, and greasy.Installs and makes repairs in areas where foul smelling fumes are present. Must be able to wear all @types of respirators,safety shoes, glasses, gloves, aprons, asbestos gloves, and all @types of protective clothing. Occasionally is exposed to possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. Frequently is exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, bruises, scrapes, and infections. Occasionally is exposed to the possibility of broken bones. Subject to work with or around asbestos piping and covering. The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.
