Job Description
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our DNS Data Plane team. You'll design, build, and operate high-performance, highly reliable DNS services that power critical infrastructure at global scale. This role focuses on performance-sensitive systems, distributed networking, and operational excellence-balancing correctness, latency, and resiliency.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement DNS data plane components (authoritative/recursive paths as applicable), focusing on low-latency and high-throughput request processing.
Build services and libraries in Go, C, Java, and/or Python (language choice depends on component and performance needs).
Optimize performance across CPU, memory, and network I/O (e.g., event loops, concurrency models, socket tuning).
Develop and maintain observability (metrics, logs, tracing), SLOs, and on-call operational playbooks.
Improve system reliability through fault-tolerant design , graceful degradation, and capacity planning.
Collaborate with control plane, security, and SRE/operations teams to deliver end-to-end DNS platform improvements.
Participate in code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical leadership/mentoring.
Required Qualifications
Strong experience building production-grade distributed systems and/or network services .
Proficiency in one or more of: Go, C, Java, Python , with the ability to work across languages.
Solid understanding of Linux systems , networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, sockets), concurrency, and performance profiling.
Demonstrated experience designing systems with high availability and safe rollout practices (e.g., canaries, feature flags).
Desired Skills / Nice to Have
DNS expertise: RFCs , UDP/TCP DNS, EDNS(0), DNSSEC, caching behaviors, zone transfers, rate limiting, load balancing.
Experience with high-performance patterns: epoll/kqueue, async I/O, lock-free/low-lock data structures, packet processing.
Familiarity with DDoS mitigation , abuse protection, and traffic engineering in L4/L7 services.
Experience with containers and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and service mesh/network policies (where relevant).
Infrastructure-as-code experience, especially Terraform .
Strong testing discipline: unit/integration tests, fuzzing, property-based testing, chaos testing.
Experience operating mission-critical services in a 24/7 environment .

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $79,200 to $178,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
