Summary This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Medical Center, Greenville VA Clinic under the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS). The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for customers, both internal and external, that require prosthetics services either face-to-face (counter) or by telephone. Responsibilities Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT AND EQUIPMENT PROCESSING Serve as the liaison between doctors, nurses, house staff and health care administration to relay information and identify and resolve problems between PSAS and its customers, both internal and external. He/she must have analytical ability, social awareness, tact and diplomacy, good customer service skills, and the ability to act independently without direct supervisor's direction. Incumbent must have the ability to deal effectively with individuals and groups and to adjust to difficult and/or stressful situations. Incumbent initiates and carries out a wide array of advisory and technical duties. CUSTOMER SERVICE Greets veterans, caregivers, visitors, vendors, and clinicians at the front desk, answering questions, providing durable medical equipment (DME), or directing them to the appropriate location as needed. Assists in determining the nature of the patient's Prosthetic needs questions or complaints and answers questions, provides information, gives guidance, and initiates action as appropriate. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/03/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond second year.
