Summary You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN SUPERVISOR I in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. APPOINTMENT TYPE: TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION Responsibilities You will exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work. You will interpret blueprints accompanying job orders and, as required, prepare layouts, patterns, and sketches. You will estimate and requisition tools, materials, and equipment needed. You will inspect work in progress, and upon completion, to ensure efficiency, economy, and safety of operation. You will train subordinates in work methods, procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, safe practices, and other regulations and policies, established by the federal government, department, bureau, or installation. You will perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE, such as: Planning the division of workload among subordinates based on capabilities of assigned and available employees, materials and equipment, and taking necessary corrective action to avoid delays. Requisitioning tools, materials and equipment needed, determining the most efficient use of these items. Interpreting blueprints and preparing layouts, patterns, and sketches. Overseeing the use of safety equipment. Adhering to non-nuclear and/or nuclear guidelines, such as the Nuclear Power Manuals, Radiological Controls for Shipyard, Radiological Work Practices Handbook to perform duties.
