Summary This posting is for the Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC) Registered Nurse (RN) located at the Denton VA, part of VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS). The MHTC RN serves in as a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) champion and coordinates local implementation, training, communication, and sustainability of the BHIP model. Actively promoting the BHIP model within the Mental Health setting. Responsibilities The Nurse Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. The focus is on individual growth and development in outpatient mental health nursing practice with increased levels of self direction. The nurse brings mental health principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. This role focuses on the implementation and sustainment of the BHIP model. Interacts with and assists BHIP members in achieving compliance with Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO), Veteran Integrated Services Network (VISN), and local policies and directives. Assists teams to maintain national mental health standards using clinical practice guidelines and clinical pathways. Promotes mental health fundamentals. Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families. The MHTC RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on comprehensive holistic components. He/she assumes responsibility for the coordination of care for patients, including triage of and care for patients with emergency medical or psychological issues. Administers medications according to policy. The RN will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other team members to track treatment plans, facilitate follow up appointments, monitor clinical progress, and support measurement-based care. The coordination will reduce fragmentation and improve Veteran access while aiding in team efficiency and workload to ensure Veterans receive comprehensive, Veteran-centered care. The incumbent is administratively and clinically supervised by a Mental Health Service supervisor and account to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS). Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
