Job Description
The College of Health and Wellness Professions at St. Cloud State University invites applications for a Tenure-Track, Probationary Line, Assistant/Associate position in Sport Management & Recreation Leadership within the Department of Kinesiology, Community Health, and Gerontology.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, curriculum support, and program initiatives across multiple areas of sport and recreation, and athletic coaching. A faculty workload includes 24 credits per academic year, with delivery modes that may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction.
Primary responsibilities include:
Teaching courses in the Sport and Recreation Management B.S program and Sport Management M.S. program, and Athletic Coaching minor. The position may also have instructional duties in other academic areas as assigned by the Dean of the College of Health and Wellness Professionals.
Supporting applied learning experiences (practicums, internships, job shadows)
Supervising experiential learning and coordinating partnerships with campus and community agencies
Advising undergraduate and/or graduate students
Serving on graduate student culminating project committee's
Collaborating with colleagues to advance program initiatives, assessment, and accreditation needs
Engages in appropriate scholarly or professional activities and pursues ongoing professional development, including contributions to research, applied practice, grants, presentations, publications, or discipline-specific innovation when applicable
Contributing to departmental, college, university, and community service and engagement activities
This position plays a key role in supporting the applied focus of the Sport and Recreation Management B.S. and Sport Management M.S, and Athletic Coaching minor program by enhancing professional preparation, community engagement, and experiential learning opportunities as well as other academic areas as assigned by the Dean of the College of Health and Wellness Professionals
Salary Range: $64,963 - $188,620/annually
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate (PhD, EdD) or ABD candidate (degree attainment by August 2026), or relatable terminal degree,in Sport Management or Sport Administration and/or Recreation, Coaching (Sport) Leadership, or closely related discipline.
Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple instructional formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online)
Demonstrated strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to student learning, engagement, and success
Ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses within Sport Management and Recreation leadership BS, the graduate Sport Management MS program and/or other department required areas as assigned by the College Dean.
College or High School Sport Administration experience and/or Recreation Leadership
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in learning and working environments
Preferred Qualification
Professional experience in collegiate athletics and/or experience serving as a high school athletic director
Higher Education academic teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: sport management, recreational leadership, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, sport nutrition, coaching, and/or sport or event operations.
Understanding of developing or coordinating internships, practicums, or professional partnerships
of advising undergraduate students and supporting professional portfolio development
Experience working with community, school, collegiate, or industry partners to support experiential learning
Understanding of supervising student field experiences, coaching, sport, recreation, or other applied learning settings
Certifications, or ability to obtain certificates in, relevant areas (e.g., CSCS, NSCA-CPT, USA Coaching credentials, ACSM, Event/Facility Management certifications)
Evidence of professional development, scholarly interests, or applied research in sport, recreation, sport, or exercise science fields
