Position: Shift Supervisor

Location: Low Moor, VA

The Opportunity:

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the safety, quality and production of your shift for a manufacturing facility for polymer extrusion, sheeting, cartonizing and winding. You will be an active participant in the safety program and promote involvement from crew members. In this role you will communicate performance expectations to shift workers, ensure production targets and metrics are met to achieve production demands, supervise machine productivity and quality, and manage personnel daily. You will be responsible for the maintenance of the machines on your shift, and you will provide direction and feedback to the contract maintenance group. This role is on a rotating 12 hour shift schedule.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Actively promote the Safety Excellence System and monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, Smurfit Westrock safety programs and Low Moor policies.

Understand and enforce plant policies and procedures with special emphasis on injury free performance. Initiate and conduct incident investigations for incidents that occur on your shift.

Promote and build our culture of caring and commitment.

Facilitate clear and effective communications between production employees and members of the management team.

Maintain housekeeping during your shift and address any deficiencies found.

Manage the contract maintenance group.

Verify tools for operators are available and in good working order.

Maintain speed and availability targets.

Review orders on the schedule 24 hours ahead of running to determine if there are any issues that will need to be covered with operators.

Help operators to resolve safety, quality and production issues.

Monitor and coach employees in your area.

Verify all training in your area is effective and useful for safe performance; review the status of all trainees with the training coordinator and your supervisor.

Review all log systems to provide feedback to the employees, including Gensuite, operational log books, and shift-to-shift communication logs.

What you need to succeed:

Industrial operations experience, with supervisory experience preferred

Strong leadership and decision-making skills

Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and lead a team of individuals.

Strong interpersonal and technical troubleshooting skills.

Computer experience - Microsoft Office

Ability to engage, coach and train crew members

Analytical and diagnostic problem-solving skills

High level of energy and strong team player

Flexibility to work rotating shifts and extra days when needed
