Position Description
The Construction Coordinator supports capital construction projects, small facility improvements, and on-call vendor-delivered work across DGS-managed facilities. The position supports Project Managers during both design and construction phases by assisting with construction document review, verifying compliance with DGS Design & Construction guidelines, identifying constructability and coordination issues, and supporting project readiness.
The role balances design-phase coordination, field oversight, vendor management, and project documentation to help ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved documents and DGS standards.
The men and women in Metro's General Services Department are there to make sure the rest of government works. From ensuring that our city's vehicles run safely and smoothly, to keeping city buildings up to par to providing printing services and more, General Services is the support that allows other Metro departments to focus and achieve their missions.
Typical Duties
Design Phase & Project Coordination
Support design phase activities (SD, DD, CD) by assisting with review of drawings and specifications for alignment with DGS design and construction guidelines, operational requirements, and constructability.
Identify coordination issues, compliance gaps, and potential risks, and support Project Managers in tracking and resolving review comments.
Assist with design coordination, bidding preparation, and transition from design to construction.
Construction Oversight & Vendor Coordination
Conduct site visits to observe work progress, document conditions, and verify general conformance with approved plans and specifications.
Provide on-site coordination support for contractors, on-call vendors, and internal stakeholders, including logistics such as access, shutdowns, and deliveries.
Assist with oversight of small projects and on-call vendor work, including scope review, performance monitoring, and invoice support.
Track daily or weekly progress, report status updates, and help identify risks impacting schedules or budgets.
Project Documentation, Compliance & Closeout
Maintain organized project records, including design review documentation, field reports, photos, correspondence, and cost records.
Support review of submittals, RFIs, change orders, schedules, and pay applications for consistency with approved documents and standards.
Assist with inspections, basic safety and code compliance coordination, and communication with regulatory agencies as required.
Support project closeout activities including punch lists, as-built documentation, O&M manuals, warranties, final walk-throughs, and facility readiness.
Support ADA, environmental, and building code compliance activities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience coordinating construction, facilities work, vendor-delivered projects, or similar activities, including two (2) years of increasingly responsible supervisory/lead experience and/or project management experience.
*Additional education may be considered In lieu of some experience. Substitution for supervisory/lead experience cannot be substituted.
LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid Driver License

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Post high school degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field
Experience in government, institutional, or facilities-based construction environments
Familiarity with managing large and small capital projects as well as on-call vendor contracts
OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings and specifications for general compliance with established design and construction standards and guidelines.
Experience communicating clearly with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
