The University of Maryland, Baltimore 's Psychiatry Addiction Research & Treatment Division has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner.The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will assess, treat and prescribe medication as appropriate. Experience in providing low barrier MOUD to individuals via a novel tele access line is strongly preferred. The NP manages the tele access line and works with the Principal Investigator (PI) and leadership team to manage and execute the program in line with the grant deliverables. The selected candidate develops and implements processes for the newly developed tele access line, including but not limited to, processes for follow up, referral and pharmacy connection, etc. The NP provides clinical supervision to staff who service the line, and provide guidance on clinical decision-making activities. The Baltimore Comprehensive Overdose Response to End the Epidemic (BCORE), a city-wide, multi-disciplinary collaborative, focuses on reducing overdose rates in Baltimore City. BCORE is a unique collection of clinical addiction and emergency medicine experts, community program leaders, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, data scientists, and public health specialists who apply their broad expertise and deep knowledge of the City of Baltimore, while leveraging existing operational infrastructure, to implement a comprehensive set of services in Baltimore City that facilitates engagement and retention in treatment with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). BCORE employs a shared governance infrastructure that supports collective action and community engagement. Primary Duties Directs the activities of one or more research studies by engaging staff in research and/or the provision of health care for patient population identified by licensure. Independently practices ambulatory, or acute care as primary or secondary provider in clinical practice settings. Develops and tracks work flow policies, recruitment strategy, and progress through the duration of the research study or clinical trial. Collaborates with Principal Investigators and regulatory staff in the preparation of new protocol submissions, protocol amendments, and renewals of ongoing clinical trials. Oversees the clinical research projects or clinical trials and assigned staff to ensure compliance with study protocols and overall clinical objectives. Supports research by developing clinical research questions, conducting and participating in research projects or clinical trials, and disseminating and incorporating findings into practice. Serves as a patient advocate throughout the research study or clinical trial. Develops and conducts patient and family education. Performs patient care duties including education and counseling patients in research procedures and administers treatment procedures. Conducts complete medical history. Assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute episodic and chronic illnesses and patient health, and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services. Exercises autonomy in medical decision making. Ensures informed consent is properly secured and documented. Oversees study and research related documentation development and distribution. Develops, recommends, modifies, and implements policies and procedure, and/or methods of clinical research to meet changing needs and requirements and enforces standards. Effectively executes clinical elements of research protocol conduct based on policies and procedures. Identifies protocol or patient problems, informs investigators of problems, and resolves problems by making protocol modifications or adjustments to care plans. Perform Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protocol development and ensures compliance of research operations with protocols with all relevant local, federal, and state regulatory and institutional policies. Orders, performs, supervises, and interprets biologic laboratory and diagnostic tests, therapeutic, and corrective measures within the practice of area of specialization as certified. In accordance with state guidelines, may prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacologic therapies during studies and trials. Identifies and prepares research grants, publications in medical and nursing literature, study materials, brochures, and correspondence. Creates a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve research goals. Oversees the recruitment, performance, and scheduling of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team. Instructs and trains research and nursing staff in scientific and procedural aspects of studies including standards of care, informed consent procedures, and documentation procedures. Coordinates financial aspects of research project or clinical trial implementation from protocol feasibility through to study termination. Establish, maintain, and improve lines of communication between members of the research team. Fosters a cooperative relationship between the members of the research team and support staff by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participation in team problem-solving methods. Facilitates collaboration with the research team at the University. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education:Master's in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing. Experience:Current national certification from AANPNCB or other national certifying body (requires 18 months under a NP mentor before becoming certified) is required. Certification/Licensure:Current Maryland license in good standing issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing to practice as a nurse practitioner or appropriate federal district licensure where research is conducted. Licensed with specific patient population and/or specialty area of research is required. Other:Certification from Association of Clinical Research Professionals or Society of Clinical Research Associates preferred. May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
