Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Marzano Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic- 1505 North Hermitage Road Hermitage, PA 16148 Lawrence County VA Clinic- 1750 New Butler Road New Castle, PA 16101 Butler VA Medical Center- 325 New Castle Road Butler, PA 16001 Major Duties include but are not limited to: Physician Assistant (PA) for primary care delivery to a panel of patients whose primary areas of responsibility will involve performance of, and documentation of health care delivery for Veterans according to VHA and DVAHCS PC standards. The PA will be fully qualified and certified to function in a clinical role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of DVAHCS. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of claimants filing compensation and pension claims. The PA practices general medicine with a focus on community-based outpatient clinical care. Approximately 90% of the PA's time is dedicated to developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to the direct care of general medicine clinic patients. The PA independently follows his own panel of general medicine patients, functioning as their primary care provider. This primary care/gatekeeper's role is incumbent with a high degree of responsibility and independence. The location of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) away from the Medical Center means that the PA's assessment skills and breadth of knowledge must be superior. In addition, he/she must be a highly effective communicator in order to negotiate with consultants at the VAMC regarding the triaging of patients he/she refers to. These skills are required at a level that exceeds that of VAMC-based PAs. Because of the highly integrative approach used in community-based outpatient clinics, the PA must work closely with his/her colleagues and must serve as a leader in developing processes to improve care and satisfaction. Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the PA signs. Shall perform GEMS responsibilities as defined in the VAMC Directive "Green Environmental Management Systems Policy" and shall consider environmentally preferable and recycled products in all purchasing decisions. Shall comply with the relevant environmental statutes, regulations and Executive Orders. Shall conform to all VHA and local directives related to safety, life safety, health, hazardous materials and emergency management directives. The primary age of Veterans receiving services is typically between 18 and 80 years of age. This position requires the incumbent to possess an understanding of the particular needs of these @types of patients.
