Job Summary and Qualifications
As an Advanced Patient Care Technician (PCT) you will deliver high quality, patient centered care in a variety of services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Our team is amazing; we consider ourselves a family who work hard to support each other and we are looking for someone who feels patient care is as meaningful as we do. In this role:
You will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern's skills/training and the needs of the department.
You will consistently assist the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
Under the supervision of the licensed nurse you will administer Central Line/PICC dressing changes, Foley, IV and NG/OG insertion, 12-lead EKG.
You will obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by policy.
You will document observations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and any physical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence. Reports observations of individual patients to the RN/Team Leader.
You will assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients. Assists with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Transfers patients to and from other units, departments, or entities. Assists with discharges. Demonstrates proper body mechanics.
You will provide or assist with non-medicated support care, including non-sterile dressing changes, skin protection, application of heat or ice, and venous compression devices.
You will obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests. Ensures accuracy of all labels and timely transfer of specimen.
You will retrieve supplies from pharmacy, storage room, or tube systems and delivers as permitted by regulation and hospital policy.
You will assist with patient preparation for surgery or other procedure.
You will orient patients/families/caregivers to room and hospital routine.
You will assist patients with activities of daily living to include eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination. Changes bed linens as needed.
You will perform hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
You will act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
You will obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests and ensure accuracy of all labels and a timely transfer of specimen.
You will follow patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
You will perform clerical work as needed, including assembling and maintaining charts, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
You are currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.
Qualifications:
Utah CNA Certification preferred
One or more years of experience in an acute care setting preferred
Enrollment at an accredited nursing school
Complete at least 1 semester of nursing curriculum
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
