POSITION: VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
REPORTS TO: PRESIDENT
SALARY RANGE: $115,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on education, experience, and qualifications
EFFECTIVE: March 16, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for administering and evaluating institutional services to include supervision and leadership in the activities of personnel as related to instruction.
MAJOR DUTIES:
· Plans and organizes the unit's work to meet the College's objectives;
· Evaluates the effectiveness of academic programs;
· Recommends the development or discontinuance of instructional programs and course offerings;
· Approves new curricula and revisions;
· Develops and maintains staff in-service activities and courses;
· Develops and implements an education plan to ensure staff, space, and materials are adequate to comply with federal and state guidelines;
· Promotes the College by addressing interested groups within our 7 county Service Delivery Area;
· Supports and promotes recruitment, advisement, retention, graduation, and job placement;
· Facilitates industry advisory councils;
· Conducts hearings for academic appeals of students as requested;
· Requests funds and approves expenditure of funds for instructional and staff development efforts;
· Manages and oversees the financial/budget operation of the Academic Affairs department;
· Monitors the activities of Academic Affairs personnel to ensure compliance with TCSG policy manual and department procedures;
· Develops and/or assists with the development of policies and procedures, and recommends changes to effectively meet the goals and requirements of the program;
· Assists Human Resources in recruitment and placement of qualified instructors;
· Evaluates employees at scheduled intervals upon review of all relevant information;
· Conducts regular evaluation of services provided and make adjustments as needed;
· Maintains up-to-date policies, procedures, and state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives;
· Plays a key role in implementing the College's strategic plan and institutional effectiveness measures;
· Provides vision, leadership, and academic expertise to assist the President in attaining the College's enrollment and institutional goals;
· Represents the College in a manner which supports the values, mission, goals, and standard for professional conduct associated with Lanier Technical College;
· Other work-related duties as assigned by President.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university, and three (3) years of work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education;
· Knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies;
· Knowledge of budget development and management principles;
· Knowledge of state and local academic program curricula;
· Knowledge of academic course standards;
· Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority;
· Skill to work cooperatively with community leaders, students, faculty, and staff;
· Ability to effectively supervise, advise, and mentor staff;
· Ability to provide leadership in high-pressure situations;
· Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;
· Skill in developing and maintaining close working relationships with community leaders and area businesses and industry executives;
· Effective oral and written communication skills;
· Effective decision making and problem solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):
· Doctorate degree in a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
· More than three (3) years of work experience in a technical college (or community college with a significant technical education program) as an Academic manager/leader (i.e. Academic Dean, Provost, Associate Vice President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, etc.).
