Description of Job
The Work Unit
This position is housed in the Center for Health and Environmental Data (CHED) which is comprised of two offices, the Office of E-Health and Data and the Office of the State Registrar and Records. The Office of the State Registrar and Records is responsible for the stewardship and preservation of Colorado vital records and the administration of the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry.
The Vital Records Program ensures the administration of the Colorado Vital Statistics Act by 1 ) registering all vital events including births, deaths, fetal deaths and induced terminations of pregnancy, 2) issuing certified copies of births, deaths, and fetal deaths, 3) amending and correcting records of all vital events, 4) providing data to Federal agencies including the National Center for Health Statistics and the Social Security Administration, 5) receipt and verification of reports of marriages and divorces, 7) implementation and support of electronic birth and death registration systems and electronic issuance systems at the state and local level, and computerization of historic vital records. The Office supports 63 local registrars in the registration and issuance of vital record certificates and provides training and technical support for data providers such as local registrars, hospitals and funeral directors.
What You Will Be Doing:
This position works within a high production operational unit and is responsible for processing birth and specialty (adoption/parentage) certificate registrations, modifications to birth certificates and performs quality assurance for birth registrations. The nature of this position consists of unique, specialized practices and procedures that require a level of complexity that is higher due to the level of decision making. This includes the skills and knowledge needed to analyze the various @types of documents submitted by applicants each day to determine whether a request should be approved and processed or denied. Assists walk-in customers at the client service window, reviews applications and supporting documentation to determine acceptability, eligibility, performs corrections on birth certificate data in applicable computer databases as needed and issue certified copies
of birth certificates.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in an occupational field related to the work in Vital Records documentation and management.
OR
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years. Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Previous experience working with Spanish-speaking customers
Previous experience working with Vital Records, including interpreting statutes, rules and regulations.
Relevant years of State service shall be considered
