About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Strategy & Portfolio Management lead within the Finance Data Management Office (FDMO) to help shape and execute Finance's data strategy. Acting as a trusted advisor to finance management, the role will help coordinate and oversee a complex portfolio of data-related change initiatives, fostering collaboration across Finance sub-domains, technology partners, and the Chief Data Office to deliver strategic transformation and operational excellence.
In this role, you will:
Influence development, implementation, and future evolution of finance's data and data governance strategy as a member of the Finance Data Management Office (FDMO) leadership team
Support effective management, oversight, and execution of the data strategy transformation and operational change portfolio
Strategic leadership
Influence development of Finance's overarching data strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
Drive innovation in data architecture and operating models to support advanced analytics and reporting
Act as a trusted advisor on data-architecture related matters, supporting effective and timely decision making across the function
Drive and coordinate cross-domain strategy alignment, working with enterprise CDO as necessary
Change portfolio management & oversight
Primary point of coordination and oversight for finance's data related change portfolio, working with finance leadership, sub-domains (Controllers, Treasury, Corporate Finance, and Investment Portfolio) and other key partners (Finance Transformation Office, Technology, non-finance domains, Chief Data Office) to ensure strategic alignment
Ensure initiatives & proposals are supported by appropriate analysis (costs, resources, timelines, benefits, impacts, risks), are subject to suitable decision making, and are appropriately prioritized
Monitor progress over initiative lifecycles, manage/escalate risks and issues, and ensure benefits realization is tracked and challenged as necessary.
Work with partners within FDMO, sub-domains, and across the enterprise to maintain a 'horizon scan' view of material changes in the operating environment (e.g. new products, upstream architecture changes, new or amended regulatory requirements) with robust tracking of associated actions
Develop and manage the operation of relevant data strategy management & oversight forums which support the above aims, ensuring:
Clear purpose and defined attendance
Clear and consistent materials & insights provided to attendees/key decision makers
Appropriate and timely sourcing of updates and materials from responsible change execution teams and relevant stakeholders (technology, non-finance domains, CDO etc)
Support effective financial discipline across the finance data agenda:
Work with partners across the finance function to maintain a clear view of the finance data agenda's financial footprint, including forward looking projections which incorporate planned progress towards target state architecture and operating models
Support provision of high quality quantitative and qualitative information into finance and enterprise routines including annual budget and investment planning
Leadership & development
Assist in development of a high-performing FDMO function:
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Lead by example in respect of building effective engagement and collaboration both within finance and across enterprise wide data stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of data product or data management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Proven ability to influence and develop enterprise-level data strategies aligned with regulatory standards and organizational objectives.
Strong understanding of data governance, architecture, and operating models, ideally within financial services or large-scale corporate environments.
Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder change portfolios, including prioritization, risk management, and benefits realization.
Skilled in financial planning and investment governance, with the ability to track and forecast data-related budgets and resource allocations.
Ability to build strong relationships across Finance, Technology, and enterprise data functions, influencing senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
Advanced analytical capability to assess proposals, costs, and impacts, coupled with strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience preparing high-quality materials for executive forums and governance committees.
Familiarity with emerging data technologies, advanced analytics, and regulatory frameworks impacting financial data management.
Understanding of horizon scanning for regulatory and operational changes and translating these into actionable strategies.
