The Role
This is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.
E86 is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager 2 to lead a multi-disciplinary team (mechanical, electrical, and structural)of engineers in supporting the construction of Reactor and Propulsion Plants, as well as providing waterfront support for Carrier Construction, Virginia Class Submarines, and Columbia. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating engineering resources, managing emergent issues, and ensuring the smooth execution of planned work during the 2nd shift .
Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary group of engineers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Oversee and coordinate engineering resources for key work that continues into the night shift, ensuring timely completion of projects.
Address and resolve emergent issues that arise during the 2nd shift, working closely with the team to develop and implement effective solutions.
Manage planned work, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Interface with construction, production, test, planning, and material personnel to ensure seamless communication and collaboration across departments.
Monitor and evaluate the performance of the engineering team, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and overall performance of the engineering team.
Prepare and present progress reports, project updates, and other relevant documentation to senior management and stakeholders.
Collaborate with other departments and external partners to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree or higher.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction engineering, with a focus on Reactor and Propulsion Plants, Carrier Construction, Virginia Class Submarines, or Columbia.
Demonstrated experience in managing and leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Strong understanding of construction processes, project management, and engineering principles.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Experience working on waterfront projects and familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of this environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
Ability to work night shifts.
