About the Opportunity This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Tax Analyst must be a well-rounded tax professional who is inquisitive, possesses excellent organizational and communication skills, and has the ability to adapt to rapidly evolving priorities. The Tax Analyst will contribute to a variety of functions within the Tax Department, including tax research, planning and analysis, strategic business unit outreach, tax audit defense, and some tax accounting. The Tax Analyst may be required to perform technical tax research, draft memoranda to document tax positions, create spreadsheets to compute taxes or model the impacts of transactions or planning opportunities, and correspond with taxing authorities to resolve notices or other disputes. The Tax Analyst will report to the Director, Tax Planning. This position will report to the Manager, Tax Accounting and be an onsite role at the FirstEnergy Headquarters in Akron, OH. Responsibilities may include:

Performing research and analysis concerning the technical tax and accounting implications of various transactions, which may include collaboration with the general accounting research team or other departments throughout the company

Drafting memoranda to support tax positions

Drafting responses or petitions to support tax audit defense and appeals

Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns

Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of various regulatory reports and/or rate cases for the distribution and transmission businesses

Supporting financial forecasts by reviewing temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting segment and consolidated taxable income and effective tax rates, and effectively communicating results

Participating in special projects in the Tax or Controller's departments, or representing the Tax department on cross-functional teams throughout the company

Taking the initiative to solve problems and bring issues to closure

Collaborating openly and honestly as part of a team

Qualifications include:

Minimum 2-4 years' tax experience working in an accounting firm or corporate tax department

Bachelor's degree in accounting or other business-related field required;

CPA, master's degree in taxation, or J.D., preferred;

Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex tax concepts and effectively explain the business impacts to management

Critical thinking skills and high learning agility

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and ability to learn other company specific applications;
