Summary The Advanced Medical Support Assistants (A-MSAs) assigned to VAMC Orlando, to include its Outpatient and Community Based Outpatient Clinics, are responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing assistants, and other members of the medical facility who provide direct patient care. Develop/maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA medical centers, and other agencies (e.g., assists with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge Communicates with non-VA medical facilities; facilitates/processes secure messaging with the patients Notifies patients of normal lab results; develops and manages a tracking system for follow up care such as consults, tests, etc.) Collaborates, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work of the unit in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations; Workings with the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutions and entering appropriate information into the electronic record Monitors pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visits/procedures (e.g., X-ray, lab work) Validate accuracy and resolve issues Participates in and providing input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings, performing administrative follow up actions Evaluate patient information and clinic schedule lists to determine whether patient is vested; educating providers about shared patients (those who receive their care at multiple VAS or those who have care in the community). Performs work related to the position, as assigned, such as working with patients to complete Release of Information (ROI) forms to pass to ROI team for further action Teach patients how to sign up for the secure messaging system in MyHealtheVet, authenticating patient access in the secure messaging system in MyHealtheVet, and receiving and relaying messages between patient/provider using the secure messaging system, etc. Work Schedule: Various work schedule due to the needs of the service. Six months experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other [administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. One year above high school; OR Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Foreign Education. To be creditable, education completed outside the U.S. must have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education must have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. programs. Certification. None required. Grandfathering Provision. All MSAs employed in VHA in this occupation on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series, and grade held, [which] are [a] part of the basic requirements of the occupation. Grade Determinations: Advanced Medical Support Assistant -GS-679-6 Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. 1.
