Deputy State Librarian

Purpose Statement: To provide leadership, guidance, and support to the Idaho Commission for Libraries staff in planning and implementing development programs to help Idaho libraries build their capacity to serve their communities. As a member of the Management Team, to provide leadership and guidance in defining how the Commission will fulfill its mission.

About the Agency: The mission of the ICfL is to assist libraries to build the capacity to best serve their communities. We're looking for a Deputy State Librarian to join our team in Boise, Idaho. Located in the heart of downtown Boise, the ICfL embodies a people-focused agency with a supportive and friendly culture.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Management Team, contribute to the development and evaluation of the agency strategic plan, agency policies, procedures, and guidelines including personnel, annual budget, and team assignments.

Coordinate planning and evaluation for statewide development programs, including the LSTA state plan.

Analyze alternative strategies for achieving statewide desired outcomes.

Monitor availability of funds to support agency programs.

Identify issues, priorities, opportunities, and threats for the agency and the Idaho library community.

Be available to Commission staff for discussion, exploration of alternatives and ideas, and historical @context.

Hire, coach, and evaluate consultant and program staff.

Communicate relevant information to and among work units.

Organize, attend, and/or provide support for task forces and advisory groups as needed.

Represent the Idaho Commission for Libraries to outside stakeholders and interests.

Collaborate with other Idaho Commission for Libraries staff to publicize trends and accomplishments of the Idaho library community.

Monitor national library issues and developments.

Represent the interests of the Idaho library community to state and national policy-makers.

Participate on relevant ALA, ILA, and other professional committees, and in other professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of:

Administration and operation of libraries including current library theory, practice, trends, and library and information science principles and programs. This is typically gained by a Master's degree in library science; OR a Bachelor's degree AND at least five (5) years of professional library experience.

Library development.

Good knowledge of:

Management practices.

Project management.

Experience:

Hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff.

Using group dynamic techniques including facilitation, collaboration, conflict resolution, or consensus building.

Preparing and making presentations to groups.
