Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office-District of Minnesota is seeking college student volunteers (non-law student volunteers) for our Summer (2026), Fall (2026), Schoolyear (2026-2027), and Spring (2027) Internship Program to assist in our mission. Start and end dates are negotiable but Fall and Spring Interns must commit to at least 8 weeks of service and school-year interns must commit to at least 10 hours per week. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. Responsibilities Student Volunteers will be assigned to one of the following divisions: Administrative Division: Supports all aspects of office operations including budget, human resources, IT systems, litigation support, procurement, and facilities management across two staffed locations. Civil Division: Handles a wide range of matters including: Defensive Litigation: Tort claims, employment discrimination, and prisoner lawsuits. Affirmative Civil Enforcement: Environmental protection, fair housing, health care fraud, and False Claims Act enforcement. Bankruptcy Litigation: Advocates for federal interests in bankruptcy cases. Financial Litigation: Collects restitution, fines, and assessments from federal cases. Criminal Division: Prosecutes federal crimes such as fraud, public corruption, immigration offenses, national security threats, violent crime, human trafficking, organized crime, and drug trafficking. Assignments for non-law student volunteers involve clerical tasks and other office support responsibilities that vary depending on the division assigned to. Duties may include clerical and administrative tasks, data tracking, document review, document organization, Information Technology support, greeting visitors, receptionist duties, assisting with office events, and other duties as assigned. Interns may also attend meetings and observe court proceedings. This opportunity provides meaningful exposure to the federal justice system and valuable mentorship from experienced legal professionals. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met: Student Status: Definition of a student - applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate/professional school, or certificate program equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study (go to http://www.ed.gov/accreditation to verify accreditation status) pursuant to 5 CFR 362. You must be considered in good academic standings by the school. Individuals must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. "Half-time" is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled. Grade Point Average: You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship: Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. Student Volunteer Agreement: All interns are required to sign the Student Volunteer Agreement (will be completed later during the security process if selected). Education All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
