Job Summary
Join Caterpillar's fastest-growing division as a Mechanical Design Engineer and help shape the future of power generation. In this hands-on role, you'll be the engineering expert on the shop floor, solving problems in real time, improving designs, and ensuring our generator sets deliver unmatched performance and reliability. What You Will Do:
Provide hands-on mechanical engineering support for generator sets (40-750 kW) built in Seguin, ensuring smooth production and quick resolution of shop-floor issues.
Drive engineering solutions through Interim Corrective Actions (ICAs) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCAs) to protect build continuity and ship dates.
Update and improve product, component, and system designs to meet customer needs, manufacturability standards, and production capabilities.
Collaborate with regulatory partners to maintain required certifications (IBC, CSA, uL).
Lead and support quality investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for product and production issues.
Provide technical guidance and maintain close communication with Assemblers and Test Engineers during build, validation, testing, and analysis.
Maintain accurate engineering documentation and ensure design changes meet configuration and production standards.
Work with operations and supply chain teams to optimize designs for cost, quality, assembly efficiency, and reliability.
Support generator sets products across the full lifecycle, including sustaining engineering and continuous improvement.
Coordinate with cross-functional and global engineering teams to align design intent and production readiness.
Degree Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 1-2 years of relevant design experience OR Associate/technical engineering degree with 4+ years of applicable design experience

Uses CAD to perform basic drafting such as wire frames, solid objects and array of objects.
Performs routine changes to computerized schematics or drawings.
Creates views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions; creates perspective drawings and orthogonal views.
Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials.
Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.
Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.
Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
Assists in building a complex proto@type of product.
Additional Requirements
Demonstrated mechanical design experience within a manufacturing or factory-facing environment
Working knowledge of mechanical systems, product design, and manufacturing principles
Experience using CAD tools to develop and maintain engineering documentation
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability in a fast-paced production setting
Ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating across engineering and operations teams
Effective written and verbal communication skills
What Will Put You Ahead
Generator set or power equipment product knowledge
Experience working in factory-facing engineering roles supporting production or assembly
Familiarity with Creo, Teamcenter, Plex, or similar engineering systems
Understanding of applicable certification or regulatory standards (IBC, UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC)
Exposure to electromechanical systems or cross-disciplinary engineering environments
Self-starter mindset with strong initiative and collaborative team engagement
Additional Information
This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
Travel up to 10% is possible.
Relocation is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
