Overview
The Commercial Product and Infrastructure (CPI) Finance organization supports Microsoft's cloud and AI capacity planning, margin optimization, and disciplined resource allocation across Microsoft's portfolio. Within CPI, the Resource Investment Strategy finance team partners closely with engineering leaders to help ensure that more than $20B in resources across approximately 100K engineering FTEs are aligned with strategic engineering priorities.
This role supports critical investments for Azure Core Infrastructure , working in close partnership with engineering leaders responsible for developing the Microsoft Azure Cloud and AI Platform . The position partners with engineering, Global Talent Acquisition, and finance teams to plan engineering headcount and support a long-term workforce and capacity strategy aligned to business and engineering needs.
This role is well suited for a finance professional who applies structured systems thinking, demonstrates curiosity and learning agility, and can navigate ambiguity and complexity while serving as a trusted finance partner to engineering stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Business and Finance Partnership: Provide strategic partnership to Engineering and Finance leaders to drive operating leverage through resource allocation and investment optimization by providing visibility into the current resource landscape, analyzing macro-level results and benchmarks, and applying systems thinking to identify and recommend levers that inform decision-making.
Business Health: Drive process excellence while partnering across Engineering and Finance to assess the overall health of the business and understand key drivers to identify opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs. Share monthly and quarterly results with clarity and a focus on actionable insights, proactively identifying risks and recommending actions to support operating margin improvements.
Lead Resource Allocation Decisions: Ensure resources and investments are aligned with business strategy, product engineering roadmaps, and company priorities. Connect short- and long-term decisions with business strategy to support informed resource allocation decisions.
Productivity Framework: Implement productivity analysis and processes to assess Engineering resource needs, providing the business with data-driven insights on areas requiring efficiency improvements and areas that support further investment.
Reporting: Publish executive-ready monthly resource summaries highlighting risks, opportunities, and key drivers. Deliver resource reviews with Finance leaders, clearly communicating results and recommendations. Automate and improve reporting processes where possible using available tools.
Thought Leadership: Leverage holistic analytical frameworks and best practices across Finance to identify trends and deliver insights that support efficient resource allocation and investment decisions.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance work experience OR equivalent experience.
1+ year(s) experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
1+ year(s) work experience in matrix-based organization.
1+ year(s) work experience in the technology or software industry.
2+ years of experience supporting cost management and cost optimization analysis.
Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $96,500 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
