Summary Central Ohio VA Health Care System is seeking for a Lead Medical Support Assistant, GS-7 position with Community Care. The Community Care Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues, and maintains efficient workflow within the Community Care. The incumbent will be expected to be a working member of the assigned team. Incumbent must screen/receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes. Incumbent develops and maintains effective working relationships with all clinical and administrative staff in determining priorities of activities in support of direct patient care. Interprets and applies a complex body of pertinent laws, regulations, directives, and policies that relate to the administration of VA healthcare benefits. Conducts special audits, studies, or surveys to be utilized in the development of procedures, and to assist employees in collecting complete and appropriate data for reporting processes and for generating revenue. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Experience at the GS-6 includes but is not limited to: arranging for coverage of all areas of responsibility; distributing and balancing workload; training new employees on duties; certifying employees on scheduling and assignment competencies; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments/consults management; providing refresher training to staff members including changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring that all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas: and acting as liaison between other MSAs and staff in order to resolve day-to-day conflicts. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics.
