The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Manager of Operations Engineering Analysis & Support Pay Range: $128,950 - $167,640

The Manager of Operations Engineering Analysis & Support leads a department responsible for driving reliability excellence across SPP's operational functions. This role provides engineering support, data analysis, procedural development, and compliance oversight in support of Reliability, Balancing, Tariff, Market, and other operational activities.
This is a key leadership position with direct impact on the quality and effectiveness of Reliability Coordination. The Manager ensures consistent execution of best practices across Operations Engineering Analysis & Support and operational teams, while fostering strong collaboration across SPP, its membership, and industry partners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Operations Engineering Analysis & Support team, including staffing, performance management, coaching, and professional development
Ensure high-quality engineering analysis, data review, procedural assessments, and compliance studies supporting SPP operational functions
Oversee the review and validation of critical reliability and compliance plans in accordance with NERC Standards, SPP Criteria, and regulatory requirements
Drive reliability excellence by identifying operational risks, mitigation measures, and best practices across Operations and Engineering
Coordinate closely with SPP Operations, Engineering, Compliance, Regulatory staff, member companies, and industry stakeholders
Provide leadership and business ownership for key committees, including the Operational Reliability Working Group (ORWG) and System Protection and Controls Advisory Group (SPCAG)
Oversee and coordinate the Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP), including real-time operational execution and stakeholder collaboration
Manage departmental resources, budgets, and tools to ensure effective and compliant operations
Represent SPP on internal and industry committees, working groups, and task forces
Make timely, accurate decisions in high-pressure, time-sensitive operational environments
To be successful we're looking for:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or Other technical degree from an ABET-accredited university
Minimum of eight (8) years of significant experience, preferably in electric utility operations
Advanced knowledge of tools and software supporting transmission system operations, including power flow, voltage stability, voltage control, system restoration, and black start
Advanced knowledge of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) high-voltage transmission system, including:
SPP Criteria and Business Practices
NERC Reliability Standards
SPP Market Protocols and Regional Tariff
Modeling controls and SPP change control procedures
Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, SPP Criteria, SPP Market Protocols, the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT), and OATT Business Practices
Proficiency with industry tools and systems, including power flow software, TARA, VSAT, TSAT, PMU, EMS, IDC, CROW, Market Systems, and OASIS
Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated initiative and ability to stay current with industry developments
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders to resolve complex issues
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access
Ability to take prompt, appropriate action in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations
Availability to work overtime during adverse system conditions, including extreme weather events and other emergencies impacting the bulk transmission system
Understanding of, compliance with, and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures
Preferred
Graduate-level degree in a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license
NERC Operator Certification
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.
Travel Requirement:
This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
