Are you passionate about ensuring compliance with tax laws? Look no further! The Department of Revenue is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join us in our mission to achieve compliance in the state of Minnesota.
As a Field Auditor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the tax system by conducting petroleum tax audits, non-filer investigations, and other enforcement assignments. This position will independently perform Petroleum tax field audits at taxpayers sites; provide education and technical assistance to Petroleum taxpayers and others; and perform other compliances activities. This position is required to travel up to 50 percent of the time, including occasional overnight travel within Minnesota and out-of-state.
Auditors will also be responsible for answering phone calls, e-mails, and participating in various internal projects and external outreach projects providing taxpayer education.

This position requires an employee to be onsite in St Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.
Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) is available on a limited basis.
Only candidates residing in Minnesota or a state bordering Minnesota (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) within 50 miles of the work address listed above are eligible for telework.
Candidates residing in Minnesota and more than 50 miles from the primary/principal work address above may be eligible to telework more than 50%.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year* of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing
OR
Three (3) years of experience providing administrative support duties working with taxes or conducting research and analysis work.
An Associate's Degree may substitute for 6 months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.
Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license.
Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:
Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications/software.
Human relations and communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner.
Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including using formulas and pivot tables, sorting data, formatting spreadsheets and cells, and linking data between worksheets.
Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time.
Experience using the Department of Revenue's GenTax system.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write reports.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable monitors.
Some compliance activities require being outside standing for extended periods of time.
