Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. The Fire Systems Specialist (FSS) provides technical support for fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and overall fire protection within H2C facilities. In this role, you will assist Fire Protection Engineers by conducting assessment walkdowns, preparing documentation, and tracking compensatory measures. Additionally, you will oversee service providers and maintenance teams during fire system work to ensure compliance and quality execution.
Key Responsibilities
Assess installed fire alarm and suppression systems for compliance with the Code of Record.
Review, draft, and update drawings related to fire protection systems.
Conduct facility fire protection walkdowns with facility representatives.
Identify and recommend corrective actions for non-compliant conditions.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (IBC, NFPA, DOE Fire Protection requirements, H2C Standards & Procedures).
Oversee projects for new fire system installations, including reviewing installed equipment prior to final turnover to ensure alignment with project drawings and specifications. This would include participating in Operational Test Procedures (OTP) and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP); depending on experience, may be required to draft ATP documentation.
Coordinate with Facility Maintenance and fire systems service provider.
Support Fire Protection Engineers with fire protection assessments and documentation.
Participate in planning meetings (e.g., Job Hazard Analyses, hot work permits).
Employee Accident Prevention Council (EAPC) walkdowns.
Track and manage maintenance requirements using various software tools, such as Power BI, Excel, Job Control System, and other platforms.
Monitor FSM work schedules and progress; provide technical guidance during maintenance activities.
Mentor and train junior Fire Systems Specialists.
Lead special projects as directed by Fire Protection Engineering.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelors (BA/BS) Degree in Fire Protection, Fire Science or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Grade 15:
Bachelors (BA/BS) Degree in Fire Protection, Fire Science or related discipline and one (1) year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Desired Qualifications
NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Fire Suppression Systems.
Training or experience equivalent to NICET Certification.
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $74,538
Hiring Range Maximum: $103,400
