The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville, is accepting applications for the position of an Industrial Electricity instructor to be located at the Ruth and Steve West Workforce Development Center. This position will work 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm with a thirty-minute lunch.
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide quality instruction for student learning and to maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis will be placed on teaching and evaluating students in the classroom and laboratories.
The Industrial Electricity is an NCCER program that utilizes classroom instruction and lecture, individualized modules, and hands-on experience at job sites to provide the student with the knowledge to be a residential electrician, pre-journeyman, journeyman, electrical maintenance worker, or electrical technician. Graduates of the program will have a strong foundation in the basic principles of electricity, including motor generator principles; meters; testing equipment and instruments; blueprint reading and math; residential wiring; National Electric Code; industrial wiring/distribution; related electronics; and shop management and records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A technical diploma or Associate degree in the Electrical field is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to a comparable combination of education, journeyman license, and directly related experience.
Must possess a high degree of knowledge of all areas involved in the diesel field
Must have a minimum of three years of full-time related work experience.
Must become an NCCER Certified Instructor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior teaching experience and NCCER certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have a strong hands-on technical background in all aspects of Industrial Electricity.
Must be proficient in residential, commercial, and industrial electricity with extensive knowledge
of the National Electrical Code
Must possess the organizational and communications skills necessary to be an effective teacher.
Must commit to remain current in the field of Industrial Electricity.
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must possess computer skills and the ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching.
TYPICAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours.
Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi.
Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
Service to Students: Comply with FERPAlaws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events.
Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the Colleges decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Environment: Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. The majority of work performed (30 hours per week) will be instructing and training students, with the remaining 7.5 hours utilized for grading, recording attendance, and individual student meetings.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and shop setting; to see and discern color, since electrical wiring is often color-coded; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, to stand and climb ladders; and to effectively communicate to exchange information.
SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, within the range of $55,983 - $67,181
