Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Santa Ana, California. In this role, you will play a key part in managing financial records, ensuring compliance, and preparing accurate monthly reports for assigned properties. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, contributing to essential accounting operations and collaborating with various teams.

Responsibilities:

Perform weekly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies related to assigned properties.

Prepare and process property transfers and external batches in line with weekly activities, ensuring general ledger accounts are cleared appropriately.

Create monthly journal entries and accruals, supported by detailed schedules for balance sheets and income statements.

Reconcile key accounts, including operating, security deposit, property tax, and insurance reserves, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Assist in analyzing and reviewing monthly financial variances, comparing actual results to budgeted expectations.

Compile and finalize monthly and annual balance sheets and income statements following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cash Basis reporting guidelines.

Manage aged deposits and disbursements, ensuring compliance with unclaimed property reporting requirements.

Collaborate with property personnel to address financial discrepancies and ensure timely month-end closings.

Post payroll entries bi-monthly, allocating associated general ledger transactions accurately.

Calculate and post monthly management fees and rents for assigned properties, ensuring proper accounting processes are followed. Requirements - Proficiency in corporate and sales tax preparation and compliance.

Strong knowledge of journal entries and general ledger processes.

Experience in preparing corporate tax returns accurately and efficiently.

Familiarity with financial statement preparation and analysis.

Ability to reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies effectively.

Excellent communication skills for liaising with property personnel and vendors.

Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools.
