THE POSITION
The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is actively looking to hire seasonal custodial workers to join their team at Codorus State Park. These positions involve essential duties related to the upkeep and maintenance of park facilities and the surrounding grounds, ensuring that the environment remains clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors. Responsibilities will include routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing various areas within the park buildings, as well as maintaining the outdoor spaces to enhance the natural beauty of the park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be tasked with overseeing the comprehensive upkeep of general housekeeping and building maintenance across various facilities, including restrooms, offices, overnight accommodations, and the swimming pool complex. Your responsibilities will encompass cleaning and sanitizing toilets, sinks, showers, floors, and walls, as well as performing deep cleaning to prepare facilities for opening, utilizing pressure washers, scrubbers, and other specialized tools.
Additionally, you will handle minor routine repairs, such as replacing light bulbs and tightening fixtures. Ground maintenance will also be part of your duties, which involves mowing grass, trimming weeds, and collecting litter using equipment like riding mowers, hand mowers, and weed eaters. You will be responsible for loading and transporting materials with utility vehicles, dump trucks, or pickup trucks, as well as cleaning grills and sweeping paved areas.
Furthermore, you will assist in the maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment utilized throughout the park, and you may be required to paint or stain park buildings, signs, and gates. It is essential to ensure the safe and proper use of all equipment and hand tools, adhering to established safety protocols and regulations, including the use of appropriate protective gear. Attendance at mandatory safety meetings and training sessions is also required. In addition to these tasks, you will engage with park visitors, providing information and assistance in a friendly and helpful manner. You will be responsible for completing necessary documentation, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing logs, and leave slips, while operating a two-way radio in accordance with established procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately May 2026 until October 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment May 2027.
Work schedule varies; 37.5-hours/week, 7-days/week operation. Shift is typically 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lunch 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM; Works weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed.
