Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing acupuncture treatments. The incumbent treats patients using tools such as needles, ear seeds, pellets, and topical herbal liniments and for utilizes manual techniques such as acupressure, shiatsu and tuina to help promote, restore and maintain patient health. This position is responsible for providing direct patient care.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Verifies medical records including the physician's orders for acupuncture, reviews their medical file for contraindications/precautions for treatment.
Collects medical history and general health and lifestyle information from patients.
Analyzes physical findings and medical history to make diagnoses according to eastern medicine.
Works with each patient to develop a treatment plan and strategy based on their diagnoses as well as individual needs.
Explains procedure and discusses individualized treatment.
Inspects area to be treated looking for edema, blisters, and/or rash, and if present, reports issues to physician/nurse before beginning treatment.
Provides acupuncture treatments as determined by the patient's treatment plan.
Observes and assesses patient for any unexpected or undesirable physical/emotional reactions.
When necessary, suspends treatment, and provides appropriate intervention. Reports adverse reactions to physician/nurse as indicated.
Maintains detailed and complete records, health care plans and prognoses.
Evaluates and refers patients to topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
Evaluates treatment outcomes and makes treatment recommendations as necessary to further promote, restore, or maintain health.

Demonstrated ability to discuss the scientific basis and commonly used techniques for acupuncture therapy.
Demonstrated ability to recognize risk factors due to the effects of cancer and cancer treatments.
Ability to adhere to the local, state, and federal laws, regulations and statutes.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as an Acupuncturist in the State of Utah
