The Surgical Specialties Division within Saint Luke's Physician Group is seeking a BC/BE fellowship trained transplant surgeon to join a successful and well-established Abdominal Transplant Program and a clinically busy Hepatobiliary & Pancreas Surgical Program at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. This exciting opportunity is available due to the upcoming retirement of one of the groups highly tenured and respected surgeons. Transplant surgeons with all levels of experience are encouraged to apply.
About the position:
The group is comprised of Abdominal Transplant and HBP Surgeons, Advance Practice Providers, and several other team members dedicated to the success of the surgical service.
The successful candidate will be involved in the evaluation and post-transplant management of kidney and liver recipients with those clinics currently following over 1,000 patients.
Opportunity to do both open and minimally invasive hepato-biliary and pancreatic procedures in addition to the opportunity to participate in all aspects of renal and liver transplantation including clinical trials and kidney and liver transplant related clinical forums.
Our surgeons have access to the Da Vinci Xi robotic platform, supporting advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Clinical research is encouraged and supported by the nephrology and hepatology teams; there is also ample opportunity for the physician to be involved in program expansion in addition to resident and medical student education.
Saint Luke's Hospital is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Medical School and surgical residents round on the inpatient service; opportunity for academic appointment through UMKC, commensurate with level of experience.
Participation in deceased donor organ recovery for the local OPO, the Midwest Transplant Network (MTN); MTN is one of the country's top performers with over 300 donors per year.

About the programs:
The kidney transplant program at Saint Luke's Hospital has performed over 2,300 kidney transplants since the program's inception in 1969.
In 1999, the program performed the first dual kidney/heart transplant and is currently involved in innovative clinical programs which include: paired internal and external exchanges, dual heart/kidney transplants, simultaneous liver/kidney transplants, positive crossmatch transplants, Jehovah's witness recipients, and +HIV recipients.
Established in 2011, the liver transplant program at Saint Luke's Hospital has continued to grow each year, supported by strong and ongoing investment from the Saint Luke's Health System.
Saint Luke's Hospital offers a multitude of patient care services which allows the kidney and liver transplant programs to provide multi-disciplinary evaluation and management before and after transplantation; The Kidney and Liver Programs have dedicated Transplant Nephrology and Hepatology teams who work well with the referring physicians.
