Summary The employee will serve as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic at the Fort Harrison VA Medical Center in Fort Harrison, MT. The employee maintains complex electronic systems and equipment which are vital to the hospital's ability to provide health care. Responsibilities The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive technical support for all automated equipment systems. Discusses maintenance problems with technical personnel. Exercises skill in interpreting electronic, electrical, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics of custom systems. Takes proper corrective action to restore the device to its fully operational level. Completes work orders and Preventive Maintenance using proper maintenance practices and following manufacturer's recommendations in order to extend the life of equipment. Provides technical support of these systems includes the preventive maintenance, installation, evaluation, troubleshoots, repair, calibration, testing and modification etc. Completes work orders and Preventive Maintenance using proper maintenance practices and following manufacturer's recommendations. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping or lifting of moderately heavy objects. The employee will frequently lift and carry unassisted items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORK CONDITIONS: The work involves regular and recurring moderate risks that may require the use of special safety precautions or devices. The employee works around machines, electronic and electrical components, moving parts and other potentially hazardous items. Work is typically in well-lit, heated and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes under conditions of heat and cold and outside in inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises. The employee works as part of a multidisciplinary team of biomedical technician and maintenance personnel. As such, a wide variety of work outside of the electronics trade may be required of the position. This will include, but will not be limited to, assisting with HVAC, electrical, engineering and other skilled or unskilled fields of work. Additionally, the employee may be required to provide labor services that may include snow removal, cleaning, or other functions on an urgent need @type basis.
