Child Support Specialist

JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Adjusts and corrects child support and maintenance payments daily to ensure proper distribution of funds and maintains accurate documentation to support these adjustments Interprets and enters new and modified court orders Reconciles account balances and provides an explanation of the same to client, attorney or court as necessary Provide program information, explain court actions, penalties, costs and provide resources for legal counsel, employment, assistance programs, and other state and county agencies Negotiate out of court settlements Conduct driver\'s license, recreational or occupational license suspension, tax intercept, lien docket, account seizure Monitor, establish, and release liens, prepare alternative payment plans, and coordinate lien payoffs with lending institutions Manage an assigned caseload to establish paternity, locate absent parents, determine child support, and medical support obligations Reviews relevant statutes, regulations, and procedures with clients, explaining the parties\' rights and responsibilities. Explains the Child Support Agency\'s role in ensuring the establishment of a legal obligation to support, including paternity determination Conducts initial applicant interviews to gather facts for paternity establishment and support payments Perform genetic testing services as needed Maintain clear and accurate notes in KIDS detailing financial calculations for adjustments, defining dates used for pro-rated calculation amounts, and justification for account holds Initiates and sends correspondence to interested parties in response to case-specific financial requests Collect and process disbursement of payments for child support, bond, purge and fee payments Responsible for working various KIDS financial reports, researching, and making necessary corrections to case accounts as required Identify and report potential allocation and distribution errors to the Central Disbursement/Wisconsin Support Collections Trust Fund Serves as liaison between local agency and Trust Fund Responds to requests from employers, attorneys or other agencies promptly Processes client, business government inquiries/requests for financial information Analyze financial report data obtained from the Bureau of Child Support to enhance agency performance Answer questions and correspondence from payers and payees regarding the allocation and distribution of child support collections Provide court testimony as required Performs intake duties, including answering the telephone, assisting walk-ins, and relaying messages as assigned by the manager and in rotation with other workers. Provides general program information and materials as needed Completes requests for verification of child support received Reviews and manages KIDS reports as necessary to assist in case management Maintains accurate case file records and client confidentiality Delivers child support documents to the Courthouse as needed Prepare interstate documents for other states to enforce and/or establish paternity and child support orders Prepare financial documents for interstate action and monitor payments Drafts motions, orders to show cause, affidavits, and other legal documents for service and court action; appears with child support attorney in court; prepares orders and submits to court for signature; enforces various court, income withholding and interstate orders Prepares child support and paternity cases for negation and litigation. Assists the Corporation Counsel in court as needed Monitors non-custodial parent for support order compliance Locates absent parents using Federal Parent Locate Service, and other methods; obtains and verifies employment and health insurance information regarding non-custodial and absent parents; notifies non-custodial and absent parents of obligations, arrearages and other matters pertaining to case Performs otherduties as assigned ** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two (2) years\' experience in a law office, general administrative position or related customer service environment Experience in the child support field preferred Post-secondary coursework in child support, legal secretary, paralegal or related field Computer experience using Microsoft Office Suite; experience with KIDS preferred An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered ** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Apply Online: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cojacksonwi
