Summary This position serves as a Materials Handler in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) with the University of Kentucky Medical Center at the US Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Responsibilities Major duties include but are not limited to: Receives and checks in supplies and equipment to ensure accountability for all items ordered Assembles, delivers, and stocks supplies and equipment in appropriate storage areas. Monitors stock levels and usage patterns to ensure adequate quantities of supplies are kept on hand and to determine procurement needs. Initiates action for purchase of needed supplies based on stock levels, usage patterns, and inventory results. Conducts weekly inventory and maintains up-to-date records of housekeeping supplies. Assembles new equipment according to manual instructions and tests for proper operation prior to placing in use. Performs minor maintenance and simple repairs on housekeeping equipment. Assembles, delivers, and places new furniture items in designated areas. Maintains cleanliness of all assigned spaces when working as a housekeeper. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT: Comes in contact with employees of all services and must be able to work harmoniously with them. This position requires sound physical condition and ability to interpret oral and written instructions and requirements. Push carts up to 200 pounds. Able to stock storerooms and closets. WORK CONDITIONS: Well lighted, well ventilated area, temperature controlled, and normally indoors. May be required to work outside to load/unload supplies.
